An offbeat place-Samthar
North Bengal is famous for it beautiful places among the people of the rest of the state as well as the country. But, over due course of time only a few places have actually got recognition and there are many offbeat places which are beautiful too. Today we will explore North Bengal beyond Darjeeling.
The beautiful place I had been talking of is none other than Samthar.
Location:
Samthar is located in the district of Kalimpong( Pincode- 734031)of West Bengal, India. The place is only 60 kms from Siliguri.
How to reach Samthar:
Samthar can be reached only through the road route. If one starts from Kolkata, one can take the trains which halt at New Jalpaiguri Station(Njp) such as - Darjeeling Mail, Superfast etc. One can then book a car according to one's own choices and can reach Samthar with two hours.
Where to stay:
Tourist spots:
On the way to Samthar comes a very beautiful view point. The view point is at a great height and thus gives a view of the entire Kalimpong.
Near to the view point is a very beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has its own timings. If one can reach on the perfect time he/she can easily get an entry into the tale else the door remains locked.
One can even trek to a small extent in the nearby mountains.
The picture shows main road but among the lush green lies many untravelled paths but it is recommended to return to the homestay before the sun sets as there may be bears and snakes in the forest.
The night veiws are more elegant. The night view from the homestay among the green forests to the villages is soulful.
This place may not have much tourist spots like Darjeeling or Mirik but nature lovers will find peace at this soleful place.
The place Samthar may take only a day from your tour at North Bengal and it would be worth it. Away from the hustle bustl of this fast life a day at peace is something everyone lounges for these days and Samthar provides it.
